Hoy se celebra el día del padre en España. En otros países se celebra en diferentes fechas, pero en España siempre se celebra el 19 de marzo, día de San José. 
Today is Father’s day in Spain. In other countries you might celebrate this day on a different date, but in Spain it is always on 19th March - the day of Saint José.
España es un país de tradición católica, y eso se nota en cosas como estas. José era el padre de Jesucristo, así que en su honor ahora celebramos el día de todos los padres.
Spain is a Catholic country and you can tell on days like this. José was Jesus Christ’s father, so in his honour we celebrate fathers on this day.
Realmente no es algo que se note mucho en las calles, suele ser un día para celebrar en casa, en familia. Donde sí que se nota cuando se acerca el día del padre es en las tiendas, no haces más que ver anuncios y propaganda ofreciéndote miles de pequeñas “chorradas” para comprar a nuestros padres.
The celebrations are not really public affairs - it is more something that is celebrated at home with the family. But you can certainly tell that father’s Day is near when the shops start selling a whole host of bits and bobs to give to your father.
En teoría este es un día para dar las gracias a tu padre por todo lo que hace por tí, si se ha portado bien claro 
El problema es, a mi parecer, que, como con muchas otras celebraciones, todo esto se ha convertido en una excusa comercial más, en una manera más de obligarte a comprar algo.
In theory, this day serves to say thank you to your father for everything he has done for you, if he has done a good job, of course But as far as I see it, the day has become too commercialised and is just another excuse to make us buy something.
¿Os habéis fijado? Cada vez hay más “día del… algo”. Para mi, todo esto no es más que una estratagema comercial, una manera de venderte algo. Si no, ¿como explicáis que exista el “día de la tortilla“, o el “día de la toalla“? ¿Qué es esto? Para mí, ¡una tomadura de pelo!
Have you noticed? There are more and more of these special days being invented. As far as I am concerned it is all just a commercial strategy to sell you something. Otherwise, how do you explain the fact that we have ‘Tortilla day’ or ‘Towel day’??? What is that all about? I think they are pulling our legs!
De todas formas, no dejemos que todo esto empañe un día que tendría que ser algo bonito. Espero que todos tengáis la oportunidad de disfrutar de este día con vuestro padre o hijo/s.
In any case, we won’t let that all ruin what is supposed to be a nice day. I hope you all have the chance to enjoy this day with your father or children.
