¡Fiestas de Santa Eulalia en Barcelona este finde!
Rocio¿Hasta qué punto conocéis la cultura catalana? Vale, quizás habéis probado el rico ‘pan tomàquet’ y bebido mucho Cava catalán. Pero, si realmente queréis saber un poco más, tenéis la oportunidad este fin de semana de ver las tradiciones más populares y únicas en Cataluña: ¡Los ‘Castellers’, los Gigantes y el ‘Correfoc’!
How much do you really know about Catalan culture? Ok, so maybe you have tried the tasty ‘pan tomaquet’ tomato bread and drunk plenty of Catalan Cava. but if you really want to know a bit more, then you have the chance this weekend to see some of Catalonia’s most popular and unique traditions: ¡Los ‘Castellers’, los Gigantes y el ‘Correfoc’!
Os explicaré un poco. En el barrio Gótico se celebran este finde las Fiestas de Santa Eulalia. Además de conciertos, obras de teatro, exposiciones y muchas cosas más que hacer, podréis ver estos tres espectáculos típicos de Barcelona y toda Cataluña.
Let me explain a bit more. This weekend the gothic quarter is celebrating the Saint Eulalia festival. As well as concerts, theatre, exhibitions and lots of other things, you will be able to see these 3 very typical traditions.
Los ‘castellers’ son impresionantes torres humanas. Normalmente se hacen competiciones muy emocionantes de ‘castells’ (castillos). Cuando veáis este espectáculo, es súper importante guardar silencio, ¡porque es peligroso que los castellers se puedan distraer! Podéis ver la competición de castellers este domingo 11 de febrero a la 1 de la tarde en la Plaza de San Jaume.
The ‘Castellers’ are impressive human towers. There are often competitions to see who can build the best ‘castell’ (tower). When watching this show, it is really important to be as quiet as possible so as not to distract the participants! You can see a competition this Sunday 11th February at 1pm in San Jaume square.
Los gigantes son figuras de cartón muy grandes (como su nombre indican) y las llevan personas por las calles de Barcelona. El domingo los podrás ver a las 10 de la mañana en la Plaza Real. ¡Quizá es buena idea quedarte por el centro desayunando después de cerrar alguna discoteca de la zona!
The ‘gigantes’ are enormous cardboard figures that are carried around through the streets of Barcelona. You can see them this Sunday at 10 am in Plaza Reial. Maybe you could stay in the town centre to have breakfast and watch the show after the clubs have closed!
Y finalmente, os cuento sobre el ‘correfoc’. El correfoc es un grupo de ‘diablillos’ que recorren el centro con fuegos artificiales persiguiendo a la gente, ¡así que ten cuidado! Es muy divertido, pero tienes que tener algunas precauciones, como llevar ropa de algodón, llevar manga larga, cuello alto, sombrero, y por supuesto, ¡zapatos cómodos para correr! El correfoc de Santa Eulalia sale desde la Avenida de la Catedral el domingo a las 7 y media de la tarde.
And finally, let me tell you a bit more about the ‘Correfoc’. This is a group of ‘diablillos’ (little devils) that run through the streets chasing people with fireworks….so be careful! It is really good fun, but you need to prepare yourself well beforehand - wear cotton clothing, long sleeves, a high necked top, hat and of course comfortable shoes to run in! The St Eulalia Correfoc sets off from Avenida de la Categral at 7.30pm on Sunday.
