Have you ever seen a concert at the Palau de la Música?

Did you know they don’t only have classical concerts but also Pop, Rock, Cabaret and Jazz music? 

Just try to imagine one second a group like Tindersticks playing their elegant pop music in such a beautiful place! It is just magical, very very different… a pure delight!!! The place is so amazing that I also saw Ute Lemper (twice!!!), la Locomotora Negra (a swing band from Barcelona), Arab Strap, Ryutchi Sakamoto and believe me, even though the tickets are a bit expensive, I never regretted it!

If you have never had the opportunity to see this fantastic building, just check their website and you will discover the beautiful main Concert Hall (and its great central skylight), the foyer (where you can sip a glass of cava during the intermission!!!), the amazing modernist decoration of the building, in a few words: THE jewel of the Modernist buildings. Hello everyone!

How are you? I hope you’re doing fine… As I’m quite interested in theatres, I would like to tell you something about my favourite musical: GREASE!!! I really love musicals and I’ve seen Grease in English and German speech, so I have decided to go to Victoria Theatre on 28th December to experience it in Spanish!

The musical will be staged here in Barcelona until the 18th March 2008 at the Victoria Theatre, Av. Paral lel, 67. Grease is a musical by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. The stage version of the musical features all famous songs from the film and many more. Grease was originally staged at the New London Theatre in the 1970’s. Later on the show was made into a movie that was released in 1978 – with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. The movie version was quite different to the original version and included a number of new songs. In 1979, another stage version of Grease was produced which, included the songs from the film. I was much more impressed by the stage version because of the songs, the performance of the actors and of the live music.  (more…)

Here I’m back again with our school activities for this week, the last one before starting with our special activities for Christmas time!!! And we are all looking forward it!! Barcelona during this period of the year is just amazing with all those lights and decorations around the city center and ‘Paseo de Gracia’!!

As the Christmas time already has begun in Barcelona, I would like to tell you something about the traditional Christmas sweets of Spain during this period.

If you don’t know what to buy for your friends and families, read carefully the following. It could be a good opportunity for a gift!

There are two famous sweets in Spain during Christmas time: “el turrón” and “el polvorón”. These popular sweets are especially available on Christmas time and not during any other period.

The “turrón” is a nougat bar, typically made of honey, sugar, and egg white, coated in crushed, toasted almonds. It’s usually shaped into a rectangular tablet or a round cake. It is mostly consumed as a traditional dessert for Christmas. (more…)
