Como muchos debéis saber ya, Barcelona es uno de los principales núcleos del arte contemporáneo en España, en continua lucha con la también capital del arte, Madrid. Ambas ciudades cuentan con un patrimonio artístico y cultural incalculable, aunque de alguna manera creo que Barcelona es conocida por ser más vanguardista que la más tradicional Madrid.
As you should already know, Barcelona is one of the main cities in Spain for contemporary art, in continuous ‘battle’ with the other art capital, Madrid. Both cities have an incalculable artistic and cultural inheritage, although in some way I think Barcelona is known for being more in the forefront of ‘avant-garde’ than the more traditional Madrid.
Por ejemplo, si pensamos en qué museo es el más conocido en Madrid, diríamos El Prado, que cuenta con las obras españolas más importantes anteriores al siglo veinte. En Barcelona, sin embargo, el museo probablemente más conocido podría ser el museo Picasso, gran artista español del siglo veinte, o incluso el CCCB (Centro de Cultura Contemporánea de Barcelona), muy popular también.
For example, if we think which museum is the most popular in Madrid, we would say ‘El Prado’, that has the most important Spanish works from before the 20th century. On the other hand, the most popular museum in Barcelona would be the Picasso museum, or even the CCCB (Barcelona centre for contemporary art), very popular too.
A lo largo del año, aparte de visitar los numerosos museos que tiene Barcelona, también podéis disfrutar de las numerosas ferias de arte que se organizan en las galerías de arte de la ciudad. Por cierto, ¿sabíais que la escuela está rodeada de galerías de arte con exposiciones continuas todo el año? ¡En la misma calle Consell de Cent encontraréis muchas!
Throughout the year, apart from visiting the many museums that there are in Barcelona, you can also enjoy the numerous art exhibitions taking place in the different art galleries in the city. By the way, did you know that our school is surrounded by art galleries with continuous exhibitions all year round? In the same Consell de Cent street you will find many of them!
Hoy os vengo a hablar sobre un festival de arte contemporáneo que se celebra en nuestra ciudad del 10 al 13 de mayo. Podría ser el comienzo del equivalente de la famosa feria que se celebra en Madrid cada año llamada ARCO. Aquí en Barcelona se llama SWAB. En 4 días, 45 galerías expondrán las obras plásticas de 160 artistas de todo el mundo. Si os interesa el arte, no os lo podéis perder.
Today I am telling you about a contemporary art festival being celebrated in Barcelona from 10th to 13th May. It could be the start of the equivalent of the popular ARCO fair that takes place in Madrid every year. Here in Barcelona the fair is called SWAB. In 4 days, 45 art galleries will be showing the works of 160 artists from around the world. If you are interested in art, you cant miss it!
El centro cultural donde se expondrán las principales obras será el de Drassanes, donde se ubica el Museo Marítimo (Avenida Drassanes sin número, L3 - Drassanes) al final de Las Ramblas, cerca de la estatua de Colón. La entrada general cuesta 15 euros y la entrada reducida (después de las 6 de la tarde) cuesta 7 euros. The cultural centre where the main works will be showed will be the Drassanes cultural centre, where the Sea Museum is located (Drassanes Avenue, L3-Drassanes) at the end of Las Ramblas, near Colombus statue. The general ticket costs 15 euros, and the reduced one (after 6 in the evening) costs 7 euros. Como estaréis por la zona de las Ramblas, os comento un par de sitios donde podéis ir antes o después de la feria para tomar algo:
- La Plata, calle Mercé 8, donde podréis degustar las típicas tapas
- El Set Portes, en el Paseo Isabel II, donde comer paella
- Soda, en la calle Avinyo 24, que es tienda de ropa durante el día y bar de copas por la noche
As you will be in Las Ramblas area, let me recommend you a couple of places where you can go before or after to have a drink:
- La Plata, Mercé street 8, where you can enjoy the typical tapas
- El Set Portes, in Paseo Isabel II, where you can have paella
- Soda, in Avinyo street 24, which is a clothes shop during the day and bar at night
Y si preferís el arte audiovisual, pues tenéis la feria de arte LOOP, del 23 de mayo al 3 de junio. Y así, podéis ‘empalmar’ con el gran festival de música contemporánea que se celebra en Barcelona cada año, el Sónar. Este año tiene lugar del 14 al 16 de junio por todo el centro de la ciudad.
If you prefer audiovisual art, you also have the art exhibition LOOP, from 23rd May until 3rd June. And then, you can ‘join’ it with the big contemporary music festival taking place in Barcelona every year, called Sónar. This year, it takes place from 14th to 16th June in the city centre.
