Primavera Sound Festival 2013

Friday, May 17th, 2013

Hi good people!

Can you imagine watching some of the best rock, pop, electro and independent bands under the stars on a warm spring evening with a sea breeze and 150,000 like-minded music enthusiasts…? Idealistic isn’t it.

From the 22nd to the 25th of May, you will be able to do just that. Once again, the long anticipated Primavera Sound music festival will land in the Parc del Fòrum (L4, yellow line), bringing with it world famous acts such as Blur, The Vaccines and Peace (not so famous, but they’re a favourite of mine so clearly deserve a plug).

For the 12th year running, the organisers of Primavera have managed to present us with a more than impressive line-up, from Catalan pop group Manel, to the smooth British folk sounds of Daughter, with a bit of hip hop thrown in from the Wu-Tang Clan. I think it’s fair to say there is something for everybody!

All of this in the name of celebrating the arrival of spring!

Obviously, it all comes at a price… but if you aren’t willing to spend 80€ on a day ticket I can assure you that as every year, there will be a number of free concerts and gigs around the city for those whose ears can appreciate good music, but whose bank balances cannot. From the 24th April up until the 18th May, 22 bands will be playing in bars around Barcelona as a gentle warm-up for this unforgettable weekend - keep an eye out on flyer boards and online for more details!

Sadly, the end of the weekend is unavoidable but you can blow away those post-Primavera blues by buying yourself a ticket to Barcelona’s second music festival of the year taking place in June – Sónar!

Enjoy!!!! :D

Valentine’s day

Wednesday, February 13th, 2013

Hi folks!

Our new intern Heather has a written a blog about valentine’s day! Yes, it is tomorrow :) and we suggest some things you can do on this special day here in our beautiful city, Barcelona.
Enjoy it:

Hello everybody! I’m Heather, a new intern here at Camino Barcelona. As Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, I’ve been set the challenge of gathering a few ideas to help you bring out your romantic side on one of the ‘most loved’ days of the year.

Looking to impress someone with your sporting prowess? Sandrine suggested taking to the boats in the Parque de la Ciudadella – why not bring a bite to eat and set up a picnic on the grass afterwards to regain your energy. Who knows, you might need it later… for a walk around the Born neighborhood! Is there anything more romantic than getting lost amongst the narrow streets and admiring (more…)

Caga tió & caganer

Thursday, November 29th, 2012

Hi folks :D

Christmas is just around the corner and as every year we write about the Christmas traditions in Catalonia. Becca was very surprised of the Catalan traditions and has written this very funny blog. I hope you enjoy it!

Given that the festive season is approaching, I got talking to my house-mate here in Spain about how she was planning to celebrate. Firstly I was shocked and appalled to hear that she wasn’t going to have a big roast dinner. But this paled in comparison to the next 2 traditions she revealed.
When you think about Christmas you might think about the tree, the presents or even the baby Jesus but one thing that certainly doesn’t spring to mind is poo. Well… after reading this blog you might change your perspective a little bit…

In Catalonia there are some rather bizarre traditions which go alongside all the tinsel, trees and fairy lights. The first of them is caga tió (we have one in our school :) ) which consists of a log which has a face drawn on it, 2 front legs, a typical Catalan beret and is usually covered in a blanket so it doesn’t (more…)

Cake-hunting in Barcelona

Wednesday, November 14th, 2012

Hi folks,

Hope you are well!

Becca has written an excellent blog about her favourite cake and coffe spots in Barcelona. Enjoy the virtual tour and try them all!

Now that winter is closing in and trips to the beach in your bikini might not seem quite so appealing, we thought it only right that we offer you an alternative to picnics, ice cream and Sangría. So here you have it: Where to find the best cakes in Barcelona?

After 5 months of VERY in depth research into where to eat around the city, I would say that my sweet tooth and I are more than qualified to give you all a virtual cake-eating tour of Barcelona!

If you have spent anytime walking through the streets of the city you will know that almost everything you go, you find something that looks good enough to eat! So here are a few of my favorite spots for a cake, a coffee and a catch-up! They are all within 20 minutes of the school so will have time to pop by before your classes.

- The first was recommended to me by a Camino student and despite having a minor tantrum when the waiter told me they didn’t do hot chocolate (apparently August in Spain isn’t exactly hot chocolate season!), the giant slab of cheesecake he brought me didn’t half but make up for it! It was honestly the best cheesecake I have tried since I arrived and (more…)

Pooja’s experience and the differences between India and Spain

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

Hi folks,

Today we have a special blog from one of our student. Her name is Pooja and she has been studying with us for more than 25 weeks and her Spanish is perfect now :D. Pooja is from India and she has written a blog about the cultural differences between Spain and India and what she feels about her new country ;) .

Hola amigos,

My name is Pooja and I am a student at Camino Barcelona. I come from the land popularly known as the “land of curries” and “snake charmers”, INDIA. Through this blog I would like to share with you my experience studying in Spain and encountering a difference of culture between India and the western world.

To be honest when I started to write this blog, I was clueless as to how to go about it. Coming from a metropolitan city, it makes it difficult to describe the real India. But I will try my best to put down my experiences to best of my knowledge and ability to put it in words.

I realized differences as well as similarities between the two cultures. Many debates surround the Indian and the western cultures. It is true that these cultures differ in many ways ranging from eating habits, the way of dressing, marriage and even (more…)

Some advice about the DELE exam

Friday, April 13th, 2012

Hi folks,

So, the sun is up again and I am sure we will have a wonderful sunny weather to spend on the beach this weekend.

Here is a new blog from our new Italian work placement David. Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Hi guys!

How are you? My name is David and I’m from Rome and this is my first blog so I really hope you will all enjoy it!
First of all, here’s a brief presentation of myself: I’m an Italian Erasmus student and this is my second week here at Camino Barcelona, I was awarded a scholarship for international students and so I’m going to spend the next six months here in Barcelona :D !

Today I want to talk about the DELE exam and its importance from a professional and academic point of view. I decided to take this exam last year after having lived in Spain for 6 months and It seems that I had really underestimated how useful this exam would be for me! As I study languages, I signed myself up to try and pass the highest level: C2, and (more…)
