Ahora que por fin el buen tiempo ya está aquí, quiero iniciar una nueva sección en la que iré comentando las diversas playas de Barcelona. ¡Hoy comenzamos con la Barceloneta!
Now that the good weather is finally with us I want to start a new section where to tell you about the different beaches in Barcelona. Today we start with ‘La Barceloneta’
La Barceloneta no es una playa más de Barcelona, durante mucho tiempo fue “la playa” de Barcelona, ya que no había más. Ahora es difícil de imaginar, pero hasta no hace tanto esta era la única playa de los “barceloneses”.
‘La Barceloneta’ is not another beach in Barcelona, for a long time it was ‘the beach’ of Barcelona, as there were no other. Now it’s hard to believe but not so long ago it was the only beach for the Barcelona citizens.
Por ejemplo, recuerdo cuando yo era pequeño e iba con mis hermanos a la Barceloneta. La ruta es la misma, coges la linea amarilla del metro y te bajas en la Barceloneta. Desde ahí, coge la Avenida de Joan de Borbo, al final de esta calle está la playa.
For example, I remember when I was a kid and used to come with my brothers. The route remains the same, you take the yellow metro line until ‘Barceloneta’. From there you take the ‘Avenidad de Joan de Borbo’, at the end of this avenue you find the beach.
La Avenida de Joan de Borbo es importante también porque está llena de terrazas donde tomarse una clara o comer una buena paella. Así que ya sabéis, cuando tengáis hambre, os podéis acercar por aquí a reponer fuerzas. Como digo, está lleno de terrazas, pero uno de mis restaurantes preferidos es “La Mar Salada“. Preparan una fideuá que está “para chuparse los dedos”.
This ‘Joan de Borbo’ avenue is important also because it’s full of terraces where to take a drink or eat a good paella. So now you know, whenever you feel hungry you can come aroung here to ‘recharge batteries’. As I was saying, it’s full of terraces but one of my favourite ones es ‘La Mar Salada’. They do a superb ‘fideua’, a different type of paella, with kind of noodles.
La playa en si misma es una de las más populares de Barcelona, siempre con mucha gente y ambiente. En verano te encontrarás con mogollón de gente ofreciendo de todo, ¡desde bebidas hasta masajes, desde cocos hasta tatutajes!
This beach is one of the more populars in Barcelona, always with plenty of people and very good atmosphere. In summer you will find a lot of different people offering you anything, from drinks to massages, from coconuts to tattoos!
Esta playa se llama así, Barceloneta, porque está en el barrio de la Barceloneta, en principio un barrio de pescadores, aunque ya no quedan muchos. Lo que sí que podrás encontrar es los patios característicos de este barrio, donde se reunían los vecinos y algunos de los bares de tapas o comidas con menos “glamour” ¡pero con el mejor marisco de Barcelona!
Barceloneta is named after the quarter where it’s located. It was a fishermen quarter but there are not many now. What you’ll find is some characteristic ‘patios’ from this neighbourhood, where people used to meet and some of the less glamorous bars but with the best seafood in Barcelona!
En la parte más “sur” de esta playa hay un chiringuito (bar en la playa) con música y unos mojitos muy ricos y refrescantes. Sentarse en la terraza por la noche escuchando la música y con el sonido relajante de las olas ¡es un momento que no te puedes perder!
On the most ’south’ part of this beach there’s a chiringuito (beach bar) with cool music and gorgeous and refreshing ‘mojitos’. It’s a must to sit down on their terrace at night, listening to the music and the relaxing sound of the seawaves.

Por el paseo marítimo hay terrazas también donde tomar un café y quedar con los amigos. Por la noche, algunas de estas terrazas se convierten en restaurantes. ¡No hay nada mejor que comer la famosa paella en una de estas terrazas, cerca del mar! Mi favorita, y donde hemos ido muchas veces con los estudiantes de la escuela, es “La Barca del Salamanca”, un restaurante tan famoso que ya tiene varios restaurantes abiertos en Barcelona.
Around the marina path there are terraces where to take a coffe and meet with your friends. At night, some of these terraces change to restaurants. There’s nothing better than eating one of the famous paellas on a terrace here, close to the sea. My favourite terrace is one where we’ve been many times with our students, it’s called ‘La Barca del Salamanca’, such a famous restaurant that it already has different branches around Barcelona.
Si quieres continuar la noche por esta zona, puedes acercarte por la zona más “norte” de la playa, la que está más cerca de las torres. Aquí encontrarás sitios famosos como el Baja Beach o un sitio con mucha clase, el Shoko.
If you want to continue the night away around this area, you con go the ‘north’ area of the beach, the closest part to the skyliners. Here you’ll find famous clubs as Baja Beach or a very classy place, Shoko.
