Barcelona - Te quiero, I love you, Je t’aime!

Hi everyone!

Last night I made an interesting discovery - I realised that I have friends in Barcelona from 16 different countries!!!  I have just moved house :) and was writing a list of all the people to invite to our housewarming party when I realised just what a multicultural bunch we are!

Back in England, virtually all of my friends are English…the Irish friend in our group is as about as ‘foreign’ as we get!  Here it is a different ball-game altogether!  My housemate is Argentinian, my new neighbours are Russian and my friends come from all over the world - Italy, Chile, Germany, Brazil, France, Luxemburg, Sweden, Holland… and the list goes on!

And that is what I LOVE about Barcelona - it’s a hotpot of colours and cultures where you can always find someone interesting to talk to at a party!  Perhaps you want to meet people to practise your rusty French? No problem - there are lots of cool French bars and restaurants where you will have no problem finding some ‘amis’.  One of my favourites is Sol i Lluna in the Gràcia district.  Or maybe you have a desperate urge to make some Dutch friends?  Again, not a problem - there are lots of clubs and groups in Barcelona where you can meet with people of all different nationalities. Many of the local expat magazines have information about these groups.

Culture vultures should also know about the Raval district, one of the most cosmopolitan areas of the city.  Here, each little bar and restaurant offers a glimpse into a different world…

Barcelona really is a city of diversity -in the school alone we have students from over 20 nationalities this week!  Check out this photo of some of them at the Casa Batlló museum!

Have a great weekend meeting interesting people from all over the world…I’m sure you will!
