Inside Sagrada Familia

Hi again everyone,

I am back again, but this time it is definitely the last one! Hope the beginning of the winter weather isn’t getting in your way of exploring this amazing city!! Why not wrap up warm and enjoy the indoor delights that the city has to offer?

I’m sure you have all heard of the amazing Sagrada Familia, it’s quite hard not to know about in the city, with pictures adorning the walls of many cafés, restaurants and shops. I have no doubt you all know the stories of its creation and how the amazing work still has many years to go before it is finally finished. Today we will go and see a Photojournalism Exhibition which gives the opportunity to see the social, political, cultural and sport-related events from the last year through the eyes of the current best photojournalists which is hold in the Centre for Contemporary Culture of Barcelona. Hi folks!

Once again and with great pleasure I am going to introduce one of our new team members. Her name is Simona and she is doing a work placement with us:


Hi everybody,

My name is Simona and I’m doing an intership here at Camino Barcelona. I studied Social and Cultural Anthropology at University in the Czech Republic and I wanted to benefit from practical experience abroad. When I was thinking about where to go I remembered that I spent a half year in Granada and I loved it. So I decided to go to Spain again. I chose Barcelona because it is an international city where there are lots of work opportunities and you can find a mixture of cultures.

Today I would like to focus on the Catalan celebration of All Saints on 31st October. This “fiesta” is called Castañada and immediately you will find out why. It has a very nice background to it which I will tell you about now. (more…)

La Mercé 2010!!!

Hi everybody,

Summer is officially over :( but autumn is starting with one of the biggest event in Barcelona: the day of ‘LA MERCÉ’ which barcelonian celebrate with pleasure every year. As many of you probably know the fiesta of La Mercé in on the 24th of September in honour to the Virgin Mercé, the Patron–Saint of the city. This festival officially begun in 1921 but the story tells that its origin came from the thirteen century.

But I don’t want to tell you old stories. I want to invite you to a spectacular party!!!

The festival of ‘La Mercé’ takes place in various public places and the best thing is that it is totally for FREE :D

This year ‘La Mercé’ begins on Thursday 23rd September and lasts (more…)

The Routes

Route 1: Ruta Gótica (Gothic Tour)

The Gothic tour starts off in the cathedral at Plaça Nova. It takes you to the Town Hall and down roads like Carrer Montcada. You’ll get to see some of the amazing architecture of the Gothic quarter. Your tour guide, Anna, will tell you stories of the expulsion of the Jews and the conquest of Mallorca by King Jaume I, and much more. (more…)

Hi folks!

Today I am going to introduce one of our new team members. Her name is Becky and she is from UK.

Hi! I’m Becky, I am the new Work Placement student here at Camino Barcelona. I’m currently studying Spanish and Italian at the University of Liverpool. As part of my degree, I have to complete a year abroad and split it between Spain and Italy, to learn more about the cultures and languages of the countries. I’m having such a good time exploring the city, I love it!!


So, let me introduce to you our newest activity here at Camino, City Walks. It is your own personal tour guide to the city. There are two different routes that you can take to discover the real Barcelona. Both tours are recorded on to one small MP3 player, so they are really convenient and easy to use.

They give you total freedom and independence to discover the famous sights in your own time. (more…)
