Fancy some jogging in Barcelona?

This has been a very ‘athletic’ weekend in Barcelona. The nice weather accompanied more than 9000 people on the 2007 Barcelona’s marathon. The marathon crossed the whole city, from side to side, so that everybody could enjoy the race.

This race is very festive, with professionals running next to amateurs, young people next to older ones… but basically enjoying a sunny day, taking the place of cars for a few hours.

That hasn’t been everything! On the European Athletics Indoor Championships, España has finished on 3rd position in number of medals, but 3 of these medals have been special. 3 Spanish athletes have coped the first 3 positions on the 1500 metres!

Historically, Spain has always had good athletes competing on this particular race. I particularly remember when Fermín Cacho won on Barcelona ‘92 Olypmpic Games, what a race! Since then, there have always been Spanish athletes on the first positions on medium and long distance races (anybody remembers the other time 3 Spanish athletes got the first 3 positions? 1994 Helsinki’s European Championships? On marathon this time?)

If you want to emulate these runners or if you just like to do some jogging, Barcelona offers many options for you. One of the most populars is the beach. Next to the Barcelona beaches there is a path that many joggers, skaters and cyclers like to use to practise their favourite sport.

If you prefer the green areas, the Montjuïch area is perfect. Montjuïch has many interesting places to visit, but many people don’t know about its gardens and green areas, perfect to do some running with fresh air.

From the Collserola hill you get a fantastic view of Barcelona, but its vast green area is just perfect to do some exercise while enjoying the nature surrounding you.

I used to practise athletics myself some years ago and still do some exercise, so if you want to join me for some jogging, just ask me!
