Girona me enamora!!!
Hi everyone ![]()

When we think of Cataluña the first thing that comes up to our mind is the beautiful Barcelona, but Cataluña is not only Barcelona… there are other very beautiful cities you can see… and GIRONA is one of them! It’s very close to Barcelona (1 hour travelling by train from Sants Estacio), situated between the mountains and the sea. So you can visit this magnificent city during the whole year, feel the different seasons and experience various sports.

I visited the city some weeks ago and it seemed to me very romantic and charming with its small and narrow streets. The city is divided in two parts by the river ‘Onyar’ and on both sides of the river you can see the riverside houses in different colours.
The Jewish Quarter in the Old Town is something you should experience. Personally, I like cobbled and narrow streets a lot. It takes me to the medieval era. In this quarter you can also visit the Jewish History Museum, a testimony to the importance of this community that occupied this part of Girona.
Of course Girona Cathedral is a must see, built in different styles, preserves elements of the first Romanesque buildings and it has the widest arched span in the world!
What about fiestas? Next week “Fiestas de San Narciso” are starting! (like the fiestas of “La Merce” in Barcelona) On 29th October, the day dedicated to San Narciso, who is the patron saint of Girona. These festivities last about one week and are full of different activities; markets, fairs and concerts. You can see the calendar of activities here.
Apart from the fiestas, you can also go to other festivals in the city. Gerona welcomes summer in its own way, with a very special event: “Gerona, Flower time” held the third week of May. Flower designers participate with their creative ideas with floral decorations spread throughout the city. A large number of monuments and public spaces are hosting prominent floral creations. Just to have an idea you can see a video from this year’s Flower time in Gerona:

Make the most of the city and try and visit it at least once! You will experience new things every time.
Hope you like it as much as I did!
See you on next blog
