Gràcia - Barcelona’s best ‘barrio’!
I have been living in the Gràcia area of Barcelona for over 3 years now and I love it as much today as the first day I moved there! OK, so the ‘Borne’ area is very cool, the ‘Eixample’ district is full of beautiful monuments, but nothing beats my beloved Gràcia….and I’ll tell you why!
The most important thing for me has to be the ’small town’ atmosphere. Forget big roads and busy traffic - Gràcia is about narrow winding streets and cute little squares. Forget impersonal, Big City life - in Gràcia you are constantly bumping into your neighbours at the local market and I know most of the local shopkeepers by their first names!
Another thing I love - Gràcia is full of young people and has a real bohemian feel! This is an area where you will find some of Barcelona’s funkiest bars, cafés and restaurants (my personal favourite is La Fourmi - a friendly little French bar that does great cocktails!) . Clothes/gift shopping is also great in Gràcia- the emphasis is on unique designs, personal touches and individuality in general!
Before I finish I also have to mention the August street festival, known to be the most extravagant local party in Barcelona. During a whole week the streets and squares are trimmed with exotic decorations, each one competing to win the ‘best dressed street’ prize. In every corner you will find a different ambiance, with exhibitions, music, food and drink and lots of people partying!
So that is why I think Gràcia is the best place to live in Barcelona - don’t you agree???

hey, I love the Gracia festival as well, that’s the best place to go in August in Barcelona!
The streets get decorated and everything happens in the street: bars, concerts, people…
Hope to see you there!

Yep, I agree. It’s so nice to be out in the streets soaking up the atmosphere. I seem to recall dancing away until the wee hours last year, although it’s all a bit of a blur!
Just one thing, the Gracia Festival does tend to attract rain at some point during the event, so my recomendation is to take a brolly, even if it’s bright sunshine when you leave the house!!
