Libraries
I hope that you are all having a wonderful week!
It has been quite warm recently. That is nice for all of you that like going to the beach to get tanned or enjoy a nice book.
As many of our students have asked us where they could borrow books, I have a trick for you: Just go to your local library!
In Barcelona there are numerous public libraries with a great offer not only of books (in many languages!) and comics but also of DVD’s and music.
And you can borrow everything you want for free!
If you want to check which public library is close to your home,
you can check their website: http://www.bcn.es/biblioteques/, then go to “serveis i informació” and “Guia de Biblioteca”. These public libraries are opened to everybody. The only thing you will need to do to borrow books will be to become
a member. Then the library will give you a card (“carnet”) which will be available for all the libraries in the city.
To do so, you will just need to go to any of the public libraries of the city with your ID and complete the
information sheet of the library.
And not only will the card allow you to borrow books! It will also give you great discounts in theatres,
festivals, theatres, book shops, cinemas etc. If you want to check the detailed list of all the discounts
offered by the card, feel free to check the following website:
http://www.bcn.es/biblioteques/docs/descomptes/descomptes1rtrim09.pdf
(This website does not exist in English. Feel free to ask us in the school any translation you might need!).
I have myself been using this service for many years: I borrow at least 2-3 films per week, Cd’s.
If I want to prepare my holidays I check their travel guides and if internet does not work at home
I go to my nearest Public Library to surf on the net. They also have nice rooms to read the latest news or to
study in a quiet environment.
I nearly always go to the same libraries: One situated in the Raval (Sant Pau Library. Calle Hospital, 56.
Metro Liceu or Plaza Catalunya) because they have a great selection of movie and also because of the nice café
situated in the same premises, (For more information about this café, check the last entry I published “Terraces in Barcelona”).

The other library I like going to is Sofia Barrat Library.
It is located in Calle Girona, 64-68. Metro Girona and also has a great selection of books, DVD’s etc.
Both libraries are situated about 20-25 minutes walk from the school.
I hope this blog was helpful to you!!!
Have a great day!
