Linguistic exchange

Hi everyone,

This is my first blog here and I would like to introduce myself: my name is Marta, and I have been a teacher here at Camino since July 2007. As I used to work in the Tourist Industry as a Tourist Guide, I would like to tell you a little bit about the cultural activities we offer here at Camino.

The activities we offer aim to help our students get to know each other a little better at the same time as visiting and exploring some of the fascinating places which the fantastic city of Barcelona has to offer. We try to choose activities which have a good balance between the rich cultural life of Barcelona whilst being fun at the same time.

In today’s blog I am going to talk to you about an activity I have always wanted to do with Camino students: a language exchange.

This activity aims to bring together students from Camino with other native Spanish speakers and people from Barcelona who all have one thing in common: a desire to practice the language they are studying.

The driving force behind this activity came about from observing students in the school and seeing that due to the fact that many come here not knowing much Spanish, there is always too much temptation to speak English with other students as this is always the common language.

At the same time, friends and students alike kept saying to me that they wanted to put into practice the languages they are studying. This got me thinking about organising a conversational activity between natives and Camino students, and I thought this would be the perfect way to please everyone, and also to get everyone together to create a more relaxed and lifelike situation where people can chat normally, without pressure.

It has turned out to be a really fun activity, and also one which is really satisfying for everyone. If you are studying any foreign language I would recommend you come and experience our language exchange. Similarly, if you have just arrived in Barcelona and you want to make quick progress with your spoken Spanish then you really can’t miss it… The next language exchange will be on Tuesday 22nd March.

See you there!

Marta
