‘Not to miss’ places in Barcelona - Montjuic

¡Hola chicos!

Today I would like to tell some of the best things you can do or see in BCN! Even though you can always go to the typical places like Sagrada Familia or Las Ramblas, there are other things that you simply can’t miss if you come to Barcelona, which not everybody knows of. Keep reading to discover one of them…

As you all should know, Barcelona is a wonderful city which offers more than some nice museums or buildings. Let me start with the number 1 attraction in my opinion: Montjuic!

You have to explore this very nice hill! You can reach it by using the metro up to ‘Parallel’ station (L2). This is a special way to get there because you can take the cable car that will leave you on the top of the hill. From there you will have a great look of the ocean and the rest of the city.

It is even nicer if you do this at night. I promise you, you’ll never see such stunning images of Barcelona! On the mountain there you have the Montjuic Park and other beautiful places like the Barcelona Castle and its garden, which will definitely impress you! Furthermore, it is the home of the Olympic Stadium, the Olympic telecommunication tower and the National Art Museum of Cataluña (MNAC).

In spring and summer, there is a very nice show three or four times a week called ‘The music, light and water show’, which combines fireworks, music and water in the Montjuic fountains, down the hill.

You also have to see a unique attraction in Spain: Pueblo Español. It is an open-air space which has got a very special urban layout: a real village with houses, streets and squares representing each region of Spain. This is a very nice opportunity to escape from the city’s daily routine.

If you are interested in music and discos, you can’t miss Las Torres de Avila. This disco offers a special atmosphere to all its visitors - the whole place is made up with a medieval decoration. Imagine you’re dancing to the latest music hits in an old castle with shields and fanfares on the walls. I promise you, this is worth a visit! ;-)

The last must-see spot on the Montjuic hill is the Caseta del Migdia, a very nice ‘alternative’ bar and terrace surrounded by pinetrees, in the middle of nature. You just need to follow the Camí del Mar footpath around Montjuïc castle to find one of the few viewpoints in Barcelona from which you can watch the sunset. Alternatively you can the take the bus (55). This place is perfect, whether you go there to read the Sunday newspaper or just to cure your hangover from the previous night. Sometimes there are DJs spinning funk or groove music with a string quartet.

I hope all this information is useful to you when considering new places to discover in Barcelona. Montjuic definitely offers a great range of places to see and things to do. Take your time to go and do them all!

Daniel
