“Not to miss” places in Barcelona - Tibidabo

Hello everybody,

How are you? Today I saw a lot of students very tired in school! What happened to them??? Oh… yes… I know it! They were celebrating Carnival in Sitges last night! Did you have fun, guys? Well, I hope so… :-)

Now I would like to tell you a bit about another great attraction you can’t miss in BCN! Even though you can always go to the typical places like museums, there are other things that you simply can’t miss! You know, recently I told you about Montjuic and what you can see there. However, there is another interesting mountain in Barcelona! Let me introduce you ‘Tibidabo’!

As well as ‘Montjuic’, you have to explore this hill! If you’ve been in Barcelona you are likely to know it, even if you haven’t been there! Let me explain myself, do you remember that church on the top of a hill, with orange illumination at night? You can see it from almost any point of the city and it has become one of the ‘icons’ of Barcelona, that’s on Tibidabo hill!

You can reach the Tibidabo hill by bus or local train, the ‘Ferrocarriles de la Generalitat’ and the Blue Tram to ‘Peu del Funicular’, or from one of the park’s footpaths. I would recommend you to get there by Tram. It is a special way to get there and to see the hill. This Tram is been running since 1902, so it has all the ‘old style’ look, and will take you to the very top of the mountain. It is worth a visit! Try to secure a seat at the bottom of the “down” end! From there you will have a great overall look of the city.

The first “must-see” attraction there on the mountain is the amusement park. It is the city’s best one with an old-style ‘big wheel’ which dates almost back to the fair’s opening. It offers a great variety of different rides, from the “Tunnel of Terror” to the “Mysterious Castle” and, of course, the classic rollercoaster. Take your time and discover them all! ;-)

If you would like to have a completely limitless view over BCN, you have to go to the Torre de Collserola. It was designed by Norman Foster and built in 1992 for the Summer Olympics. Mainly used as a TV and radio transmitter, this futuristic design provides the highest viewpoint over the city. The top antenna reaches 288m and the top of the pod, which has thirteen floors, reaches 152m. The tenth floor of the pod is open to the public and on sunny days you can even see Majorca! Near the tower there is an information centre, where you can find some information about the mountain. Furthermore, the park around there is a fantastic place for lunch or just an afternoon stroll! Some people call it ‘Barcelona’s lung’, as it is one of the biggest green areas around Barcelona.

If you like discos and music, just like me, you can’t miss the disco Danzatoria/Partycular! Close to the Tibidabo area, it has a great tower of five floors with different ambiences. There you can find an extensive bar where it is possible to have a drink also on week-days. Furthermore you should have a glance on the dance floor at the weekends. In summer it is ideal to take a walk around the terrace surrounded by the nature. They also have a restaurant.

My last attraction for today is the Mirablau. It is both, a general viewpoint and a discotheque. In the afternoon and evening you can have some “tapas” with a fantastic view on the city. At night it turns into a discotheque.

I hope all this information is useful to you when discovering new places in Barcelona. Tibidabo definitely offers a great variety of places to see and things to do. Take your time to go and do them all!
