Our Teachers - Alejandro (Alex)

Hello everybody!

Today we want to introduce you to another one of our teachers, Alex. You might know him for being a football fan but if you keep on reading you will get to know a lot more about him.

Check out to what he has to answer to our questionnaire…

Good morning. Can you tell us what’s your name and where are you from?

Well, my name is an easy one, Alex, a quite international name as well. My surname, Superviel, quite French. I don’t know the origin of this surname, I guess I owe it to a ‘traveller’ ancestor!

I was born in the south of Spain but moved to Barcelona when I was just 3 months old and lived there since then. Therefore, I consider myself more ‘Barcelonés’ than ‘Andaluz’.

Let us know, why did you become a teacher?

I always knew that my vocation was teaching. I studied Spanish Filology thinking of becoming a teacher and right now I still study, broadening my formation.

A teacher somehow is like a doctor, you always need to keep on learning in order to teach others.

You say you like to learn and to teach but, what’s your specific background?

As mentioned before, I’m graduate in Spanish Language and Literature. However, I try to do something else every year. I’ve been in Salamanca to receive specific formation as a teacher of Spanish as a foreign language, I’ve attended seminars and workshops specific for those learning a second language. I’ve even tried ‘distance on-line learning’ from a Spanish University!

and how was this experience?

I prefer courses I can attend personally, to be honest. These are much more personal, you have a teacher you can ask any questions you have, classmates you can go out after classes… it has its advantages ;-)

Have you always worked in Barcelona?

No, not at all. My experience begins in France, where I lived for 4 years and I had the opportunity to teach in a number of schools and even at the University. A great experience, no doubt about it. It is such a beautiful experience to travel to another country to learn and to teach!

Is it difficult to learn a new language? Would you recommend a stay in Barcelona to learn Spanish, for example?

Of course yes! The best way of learning a language is to speak it and listen to it and to do that, the best way is to go to a Spanish speaking country! The experience will always be positive and rewarding.

Also, students don’t come to learn a language only but to get a whole experience, to meet people from different countries, to make some tourism and, in the case of Barcelona, to spend some time in a wonderful, magnific city.

Furthermore, when doing a language course you always meet lots of people from very different countries and cultures. In general, it is a worthy and enjoyable experience.

Could you give us a recommendation to those who are still thinking if doing a course in Barcelona or not?

Of course! Don’t think twice and try it because I’m completely sure that you will thoroughly enjoy the experience.

And at last, could you recommend a place that you shouldn’t miss when visiting Barcelona?

Well, I always recommend the same place; that’s how much I like it! If you come to Barcelona you have to eat in the coffee-shop/book-shop ‘Laie’. A good place to eat and to discover one of the most interesting bookshops in the city. Books and food is a good combination that I fancy specially.

Also, on Thursdays you can have a romatic dinner with your couple and enjoy the Jazz music from the live band they have on.

Thank you Alex.

Well, now you know Alex a bit better! There will be more reports on other teachers, but for now we leave you with a presentation that was made in an Alex’s class, enjoy it!
