School activities: Monday 3rd May - Friday 14th May 2010

How are you doing? Enjoying these rainy days of spring
? We are having a crazy weather this year… Yesterday I heard on the news that it had even snowed in some parts of Spain and we are in May!!!

At least, today is the last day of rain
. Starting from tomorrow, spring will take over, no more rain and hot sunny days will come
, prepare yourself to go to the beach
.
Let’s start the week with some great school activities that we have prepared for you for the next two weeks:
Monday 3rd May: Tour through the Gothic quarter
Take a walk through the old city of Barcelona and discover in the labyrinthine street buildings that date from the Medieval times from as far back as the Roman settlement!
Tuesday 4th: Workshop on Catalonia’s History
Increase your knowledge about the history of the Catalonia region!
Wenesday 5th: Visit to La Pedrera
The “Casa Milà” , also known as “La Pedrera”, is a fantastic experience of the architecture of Gaudí in the neighbourhood “Eixample”. Join us!
Thursday 6th: Tour through Hospital Sant Pau and Sagrada Familia
Come visit the Hospital Sant Pau, a UNESCO World Heritage Site by the Catalan modernist architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner. As well as Sagrada Familia, that with the vast scale project and idiosyncratic design have made it one of Barcelona’s (and Spain’s) top tourist attractions for many years.
Friday 7th: Visit to Parc Güell
Gaudí was strongly influenced by natural shapes and used them in his work. The park contains amazing stone structures and a terraced area where you get a wonderful view of the park and of Barcelona City!
Saturday 8th: Excursion to Montserrat and Sitges
One day excursion that allows you to visit landmarks of Catalonia as the sacred mountain of Montserrat and the seaside town of Sitges.
Monday 10th: Walk through Gaudí’s Barcelona
The brightly colours, curvilinear forms, the sculptural facades and evocative spaces that Antoni Gaudí created in Barcelona gives the personality of a fascinating city of imagination. Gaudí said that a work of art has to be seductive and universal.
Tuesday 11th: Workshop Picasso
Learn more about this spanish painter, draughtsman and sculptor known for co-founding the Cubist movement and for the wide variety of styles embodied in his work.
Wednesday 12th: Park Güell
Thursday 13th: Wine Tasting
Tour where you will find out about the elaboration of Catalonian wine and several wine tasting!
Friday 14th: Guided Tour Palau de la Música
Concert hall designed in the Catalan modernista style where more than half a million people a year attend musical performances that range from symphonic and chamber music to jazz and Cançó (Catalan song).
With the Club 50+ course you’ll discover several activities such as events as guided walks, visits to museums, workshops about Spanish and Catalonian history, wine tasting and excursions!
