Skiing, snowboarding and snow

Hello everybody!

How are you? Do you know what I discovered last weekend!?!

If you like skiing, snowboarding or anything to do with snow, just like me, because I’m 100% ‘del norte’, ;-) you are going to adore my latest discovery - I spot cheap weekend trips from Barcelona to the ski slopes (La Molina, Andorra and Baqueira-Beret, for example). I walked past some travel agencies in Barcelona and Badalona when I saw the incredible prices. I was amazed!!! Firstly I thought this had to be a joke… But then after realizing that these were real prices, I booked a 3-day ski-trip for me and my girlfriend from Barcelona to Andorra - 3 nights in a 3* hotel, half board and the coach - for only 450 euros!!! Isn’t it cheap!?!

You must know, if you would like to book a ski-trip from Germany to the Alps it is much more expensive: You actually have to pay between 600 and 800 euros for this trip (2 persons)… :-(   Furthermore, I’m living in Cologne and it is quite exhausting to get to the Alps from there. It would take you approximately 8 hours by car meanwhile here in 2-3 hours you can be already skiing! So, you could imagine how happy I was about this… :-) Although I’m feeling proud of my “new” discovery, all my Spanish friends told me that these are really old news… But for me it was really new!!!  I think the budget-boom for skiing-trips did just arrived 2 or 3 years ago, before I arrived in BCN! ;-)  But now I would like to tell you something about the most popular and cheapest Catalan ski courts around Barcelona.

First of all, I would like to start with the pipes of ‘La Molina’. You can come driving by main roads (take the C23B direction to Terrassa and then change to the C-16/E-09 up to La Molina), by bus or by train (RENFE). It should take 1 hour and a half by car and about 2 hours and a half by bus or train. Normally train and buses leave from Plaça Espanya.

Baqueira - Beret is about 200km away from Barcelona and only 160km from there you could even easily reach Toulouse - if you like to. You can go by bus or by train from Plaça España.

Last but not least we come to Andorra. It’s situated in the very heart of the Pyrenees. You can reach it by train or by bus. You can take the bus from the bus station ‘Bus nord’. If you decide to go by car you have to take the highway (direction to Tarragona-Lleida) and leave at Martorell (direction to Guissona-Ponts). From there you drive through Ponts in direction to Oliana - La Seu d’ Urgell.

If you don’t want to go as far as Andorra (it’s actually only 3 hours away by bus), there are also lots of cheap day-trips to La Molina and Baqueira-Beret. RENFE do really good deals which include the train journey and ski-pass in some of Catalonia’s best resorts!

See you guys up on the slopes!

Great advice on how to enjoy the ski season when you’re living in Spain Daniel! I discovered a few years ago that it is sooooooo much cheaper than skiing in France and Germany - it’s awesome!

Is there anything worth seeing in Andorra if you do not ski? I have a bit of time left and am looking for things I can do on my own. I have never been to Andorra so that might be a possibility. Most of all it is an unusual holiday destination.

  3. Daniel Says:

    Hi Elisa,

Thanks for your question! There is one great thing you could do aside from skiing in Andorra. You have to go shopping! As they have a diffent system of taxation, I really recommend you to go there. Electrical appliances, tabacco, alcohol and clothes are cheaper than in Barcelona.

I don´t smoke, hardly drink and will be going back soon in a plane. I am already wondering how I am suppossed to get all my stuff back. I don´t really want to spend much monet, but there are a few things I will have to buy in Barcelona (Christmas presents and souvenirs for friends mostly).

Hi Daniel, can you tell me how much the skipasses costs in Andorra?
I would also like to go skiing and I was considering Andorra as well. Normally I go skiing in Austria and the skipasses over there are ridiculously expensive!

  6. Daniel Says:

    Hi Elisa,
Well, if you don’t want to spend lots of money for present, I recommend you to buy “turrones”. They’re not expensive.
    Daniel

    Hi Liv,

    sorry, that I’m writing a bit late… I was ill…

A 5-day skipass costs 175 euros this season. Aditionally, you get a 10% discount on all adventure activities (except helicopter flights), if you would like to attend. The pass is valid through 2007/2008. For more information ask me in receptcion! See you, Daniel
