Terrace time - my favourite time!

Hi folks!

This weekend had a current theme; well 2 actually: Parties and Terraces.  A fabulous combination, it must be said.  Now that summer is clearly here to stay, the whole world seems to want to invite you to a party on their terrace.  Which suits me just fine since I don’t have one myself and no-one can deny the delights of a crisp white wine - or a nice cold beer perhaps - al fresco.

But if, like me you don’t have your own terrace and cannot always guarantee an invite to someone else’s, you will be pleased to know that Barcelona has loads of cool bars, cafes and restaurants with nice terraces where you can work on your tan (or hide in the shade!) whilst you socialise!!

Below I’ve listed some good areas to find places with terraces, but there are loads in this city so pleeeease let me know if you find any nice ones!

Bars

-Plaza Reial (metro stop Liceu) is a good source of outdoor bars and is located in a great place at night to carry on the party afterwards, with a number of clubs and late bars nearby!  One of my favourites is Sidecar!

-The beach!  In summer (from May/June onwards) the beaches are filled with ‘Chiringuitos’ - little shacks on the sand pumping out music and serving coctails and other drinks all day until late (approximately 2am).  The atmosphere is always great - definitely worth a try!

Cafés

The pretty and bohemian area of Gràcia has lots of little squares full of cute cafe-bars, that are perfect for a relaxing afternoon tea or to start off a night out with friends.  Good squares to look out for are Plaza del Sol, Plaza Rius i Taulet and Plaza de la Revolució. One of my favourites is Cafe del Sol. Most stay open until about 1 or 2 am in summer!

Restaurants

The most obvious choice for outdoor dining is at the beach and port area where you can find loads of quality fish and sea-food restaurants as well as a variety of other eateries.  The road Juan de Borbó, leading from Barceloneta Metro stop down to the beach, has lots of nice places.  For a really nice quality (and perhaps a little more expensive) meal you could try some of the more exlusive restaurants at the beachfront (metro stop Ciutadella Olimpica).  2 of my favourites are Shoko and Agua!

Let me know what you think of these if you have the chance to go!
