Three Kings Parade: A magic night in Barcelona!
Hi everyone and Happy New Year from all of us!
I hope you have started the year the best way possible. Today I am going to tell you about something happening in Barcelona this Saturday that you can’t miss: The Three Kings Parade!
As other countries in the world have Father Christmas or Santa Claus bringing presents to children and adults, in Spain we have the Three Magic Kings, also known as the Three Wise Men. Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar will be arriving in Barcelona this Saturday to bring presents for everyone!
Their magical parade will be arriving by boat at the Barcelona Port at 5 in the afternoon on Saturday and will be going around the city during the whole evening. You can check the itinerary by clicking here. Once they have arrived, the major of Barcelona, Jordi Hereu, will give them the keys for all Barcelona’s doors so that they get in all houses to leave the presents, and will welcome them with bread and salt, following the tradition.
The Three Kings Parade is very special, the Kings ride camels and are accompanied by other magical people all around the city. They throw sweets as they go along the street (this year they have 15,000 kilos!!) and normally children want to take the most of them, so you have to be quick if you want some!
I hope you were all very good last year and will get a lot of presents! If not, you may just get some ’sweet coal’…
