Spanish Host Families

Staying with a Spanish host family is the best option for students who wish to learn as much Spanish as possible in the time available to them. This is because if you choose to stay with a Spanish host family you will be totally immersed in the Spanish language, with lots opportunities to practise in the family the Spanish that you learn in class.

You can choose to have bed and breakfast, half board (breakfast, plus another meal), or full board (3 meals per day). As the meals are always included in this accommodation option, many host families do not allow the students to use kitchen to make hot meals. However, you can prepare tea/coffee, sandwich or salad if you would like to as well as use microwave and fridge.

Though Catalan is spoken by many people in Barcelona, all our families will speak only standard Castilian Spanish to our students.

Room types

Single rooms and twin (shared) rooms are available. If you wish to share your room, but are not travelling with a friend, you can book a twin room and we will place another student in the room with you. The other student will be of the same sex as you and we will try to ensure that the student you are sharing with is of a similar age to you. Though there may be more than one student in a host family, we normally ensure that there are never two students of the same mother tongue in a host family, unless you specifically ask to be placed in the same family as a friend or relative.

Location

All our families are located a maximum of 20 minutes from our school by public transport. Some live within walking distance of our school. Please see on map our most popular Spanish host families.

Who are our host families?

All our Spanish host families are all individually selected by us. A member of staff from our school visits the family to assess their suitability for hosting our students. All families agree to provide a comfortable and welcoming environment for our students. We furthermore regularly check with our students to see if they are happy in their host families. A host family can be a married or unmarried couple, or a single person, with or without children. If you have a preference, please let us know. It is very important to us that all our students are happy in their accommodation. If a student is for any reason unhappy in their host family, they are moved, without question.

In a few of our host families, private bathrooms are available, for a surcharge.
Bed linen is provided, but not towels.
Host families agree to do one clothes wash per week.

We regularly check with our students to see if they are happy in their accommodation. If a student is not happy for any reason, we will do whatever is possible to resolve the problem.
